PROJECT 1972 Voters' Roll (KSL72/Rhino)

Project leaders Annemarie Dreyer (phase 1) & Ilna Ströh (phase 2) Voters project
The Project is an initiative of the Genealogical Society of South Africa, managed by the Northern Transvaal branch
Description
The 1972 Voters' Roll is made up of 300 books, consisting of 350 pages on average with 20 records per page, in total about 2,1 million people.
During the first phase of the project the pages were photographed in the National Archives and the images combined into PDF books, corresponding to the actual books in the archives.
The second phase is currently in progress: the books are being scanned in an OCR (optical character reading) process; the resulting Excel spreadsheets are being edited and prepared for the data to be split into columns; once the split process is complete the data will be in a digitised format and ready for take-on into a database.
Deliverables
The project deliverable is the KSL72 data in the WebShop database, where records can be searched and procured individually by researchers.
Invitation
We still need editors for approximately 75 books.  Please support this project and help us unlock an important data source for the genealogical community.
