The GSSA -Southern Cape branch had an excellent outreach meeting in Mossel Bay on 21 August 2014 when 43 interested people attended the meeting at the Granary hall of the Dias-museum complex. Abrie de Swardt, chairperson, GSSA-SC, presented a lecture, "In the footsteps of Alexander Munro". Abrie did research in Scotland on the Munro-family, and specificialy Alexander Munro, as a member of the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders Regiment. Alexander was one of the pioneers of Mossel Bay, originally called Munro Bay in the early 19th century. Abrie visited Nairn in North Western Scotland, from where Alexander came, the Nairn Museum, as well as the Edenburgh Castle, National Museum of Scotland, and the West of Scotland Family History Society in Glasgow for research purposes. The Glasgow and West Scotland Family History Society has more than 1800 active members and a great research center at 32 Mansfield Street in Glasgow.
