In Loving Memory - This collection of Funeral Letters is dedicated to the memory of our dearest family and friends. It serves as a tribute to the individuals and groups of people who have shaped our lives.
The Funeral Letters project is a collaborative effort between the Genealogical Society of South Africa (GSSA) and the SA Genealogy mailing list. GSSA serves as the custodian for this invaluable collection.
The GSSA Approach
Disclaimer - While Funerals are generally considered public events, and Funeral Letters are considered documents in the public domain, GSSA still encourages contributors to obtain the necessary permissions or consents from the relevant families before submitting any Funeral Letters for publication. GSSA assumes no responsibility for any unauthorized use of copyrighted material.
Immediate Publication - Funeral Letters are published promptly after receipt, eliminating any "holding periods."
A Genealogical Treasure Trove - Funeral Letters are a valuable resource for Genealogical research. They contain a wealth of information and have been meticulously indexed and arranged alphabetically by Alphabet, Surname and Person for easy searching.
Filing System for Surnames with Prefixes - Surnames with prefixes e.g., DU PLESSIS, VAN DER MERWE are filed alphabetically based on the main part of the Surname e.g., PLESSIS-DU, MERWE-VAN-DER.
Image Captions - To ensure accuracy, all images have been captioned with the Names and Dates as they appear within the corresponding Funeral Letters.
