The Northern Transvaal Branch of the GSSA boasts with excellent genealogical sources that is kept at the Library of the Heritage Foundation in Pretoria. The Northern Transvaal Branch and the Heritage Foundation signed an agreement in 2006 according to
which the Foundation and the Branch will cooperate in making available sources for genealogical research.
The collection of GSSA Northern Transvaal includes books and magazines in both electronic and published format that deals with South African as well as international genealogies, 1820 Settlers and the arrival of the French Huguenots, the German Missionaries, Netherlands Immigrants and the Anglo Boer War and Concentration Camps. A special effort is made to collect and make available family registers and pedigree sheets of individual families The Library is in possession of both the SA Geslagsregisters(SAG) and the SA Family Register(SAF A-KY) published by GISA.
Biographies, several baptism- marriage- and membership registers of both the NG and Hervormde Church is available in the library. Registers of various cemeteries as well as the GSSA Cemetery Recording Project is available. Through the Internet access to the National Archives data base and some international resources as well.
Family researchers can avail themselves of volunteers of the Northern Transvaal that will assist twice per week. A full time librarian of the Heritage Foundation is also available for guidance and assistance.
The library of the Heritage Foundation is in the Heritage Building at the Voortrekker Monument. On week days it is open from 08:00 to 16:00 and one Saturday per month from 10:00-14:00 that coincides with the monthly meeting of the Northern Transvaal Branch, usually the second Saturday per month.Telephone number: 012-325-7885 Click here to view the list The list is searchable.
